Collaborations In A Time of Covid: Writers and Artists of Salt Spring

Collaborations In A Time of Covid: Writers and Artists of Salt Spring Island is an exhibition put together by Margaret Day of the Point Gallery for an exhibition at ArtSpring Arts Centre on Salt Spring Island. For the exhibit I have been working on my interpretation of Kevin Patterson’s novel News From the Red Desert which was based to some extent on his experiences as a doctor in Afghanistan. The novel is set in Afghanistan where Kevin Patterson was a doctor.
I have created three handmade books and three models for the exhibit. The books are multi media, created on watercolour paper sheets and folded into book form. Working on this project I have returned to my theatre background treating the book like the script of a play, interpreting the characters and places through drawings, paintings and the equivalent of set models.
