Octogony: eight artists and their new work Mahon Hall, Ganges, Salt Spring Island
September 25th – October 4th, 2020
In this one series of paintings, I have juxtaposed colour panels in acrylics with the realism of charcoal and pen drawings. The work explores the connection between men and trees in the early 20th century – the logged wood being used for the houses of the period. The colour suggests an emotional response to the subjects. In the second set of paintings which are in oil and mixed media I have abstracted a world transformed by fog and sunlight.
Art training in painting in the UK was followed by many years designing sets and costumes for theatre, opera and ballet in Canada, North America and Europe. Recently work was included in ‘Metamorphosis: Contemporary Canadian Portraits’ – an exhibition at the Glenbow Museum, Calgary in collaboration with the National Archives of Canada.
