The body as a book is a well-known metaphor. Susan Benson’s beautiful portraits of old women, located in the main hall, explore the ways in which experience is engraved on our bodies. Benson’s attention is focused on the face, on the way the skin folds and gathers around eyes, cheeks and mouth, its sagging contours.
